Mentoring project with Social Justice Commission

So you didn't know about the mentoring program hunh.  Well we asked our National Director to fill you in and here is what he had to say about the  CFC “GK – Giving Care” Project with Social Justice Commission – Family Life Committee (SJC-FLC).

It’s a Family Mentoring/intervention Program.  The aim of the project is for members of CFC to participate in a family mentoring/intervention program within their Parishes. Couples, HOLD, SOLD & SFC members are all needed on the mentoring teams. The families selected for mentoring would be families facing social justice challenges; with a view to help them become independent and capable in the management of their lives. SJC-FLC will produce a manual/workbook of strategies and procedures for the guidance of the mentoring teams. SJC-FLC will also host a one-day orientation seminar/workshop to sensitise the teams on intervention strategies for establishing working relationships with targeted families.  (This is the rescheduled orientation session referred to above.)

It had to be postponed to a date to be announced, due to a conflict with the AGM for the Social Justice Commission. The program is still going forward, and therefore we would still like to get a feedback of the interested persons from each Parish Unit. Let’s use this little delay to identify and prepare a list of the persons interested in participating in mentoring families. Remember this is part of our vision of CFC and also our obligation as Christians to help those in need.

For more information, or to volunteer,  contact your Unit Heads.

Faith FactsMore on the 4 modes by  which Christ is present in the Celebration of Eucharist

One of the key ways that Christ is present at the Mass, by virtue of His divine grace, is “in the Word” (SC 7)

The Bible is not a history or catechism lesson, but a living, personal Word.  Christ “is present in His Word since it is He himself who speaks when the holy scriptures are read in the Church” (SC7).  The word is described as “Double-edged sword” to convict, comfort, direct .  “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and spirit, of joints and marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”  Heb 4:12.

The most important passages from the entire Bible are read in Sunday Mass over a 3 year cycle.  Further, the prayers of the Mass are full of the inspired Word of God.  “May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” 2 Cor 13:13.  “Glory to God in the Highest” Lk 2:14, “Holy Holy Holy” Isaiah 6:3, “Behold the Lamb of God” Jn 1:29, “Lord I am not worthy to receive you” Matt 8:8.

Lord, we pray that we may we be open to you as the Word at Mass

 YFC Youth Mass in Lopinot

Lopinot was wonderful.  Those people really know hospitality.  Song, laughter and fellowship followed the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass. And we got all that in the cool crisp air of Lopinot.  Congratulations to Maria Garcia and her team from YFC Lopinot.  They truly show that Young, Christian and Happy are the YFC way.  Thanks also to Fr. Benedict for an inspiring homily and for liming with us for the whole day.

SFC Responsible Parenting

It was more excitement on June 4th as presenter Joan Bishop of ‘Creative Parenting For The

New Era’ shared with her audience.  Using object lessons and interactive exercises, she kept the interest high and the learning exciting. This creative learning experience was a testament to the skill of the presenter as profound paradigm shifts occurred in our understanding of family relationships and our roles as family members WOW.  Thank you Ms. Bishop.

Next session is on July 2nd at the Catholic Centre on Independence Square.  Guest speaker is with retired Justice Monica Barnes Don’t forget that All CFC adults are Invited.
